There will be a workshop to be held in BaKTI on 8 – 9 November 2007, on Community Management of Biosecurity Phase 2, supported by Australian National Cooperative Research Center for Plant Biosecurity (CRC NBS).

The purposes of this workshop is to identify processes of controlling threats to food security from pests and diseases in two neighborhood countries, Indonesia and Australia, because of their impact on food quality and quantity, with subsequent impacts on livelihoods and the strength of regional socio-economies.

In addition, this workshop recognizes the opportunity to work collaboratively on building community capacity and strategies with strong existing partnership arrangements with Universitas Mahasaraswati (Bali), The Centre for Eastern Indonesian Studies (Universitas Kristen Satya Wacana), Universitas Nusa Cendana (Kupang) and SOfEI/Bakti (Makassar), and welcome the developing partnerships with a range of NGOs, Jaringan Peneliti KTI (Eastern Indonesian Researchers Network) and additional industry, government and semi-government bodies. Note: Participation in the Workshop is by invitation only and numbers are severely restricted to ensure the workability of the workshop process.
